Pioneer Divers in the Norwegian Sector of the North Sea

BYFORD DOLPHIN VIDEO FROM LINDA CRAMMOND

The footage for this video was taken shortly before the incident which took the lives of five men. Linda Crammond found it when digging through old boxes to try and find documentation about her father, William (Billy) Crammond.

I have put it on this web site to show a little of what went on during those time. The divers who watch this video will be able to list numerous safety violations under today’s regulations. The non-divers will get some sort of idea of what was being done offshore back then.

It should be kept in mind that this video was shot during good weather when the stress level was very low. There would not have been time to make it if the conditions were adverse and the normal high work load was in place.

This video was made by a loving father who wanted to show his family back home where he went and what he did when he was away from them for such long times.

On the fifth of November 1983 five men were killed and one man seriously injured on the Byford Dolphin while diving in the Norwegian Sector; they were:

Bjørn Giæver Bergesen
Truls Hellevik
Roy Lucas
Edwin Arthur Coward
William Brown Crammond
Martin Andrew Saunders

If any one out there is serious and can help to find the families, or who just wants more information please contact me directly:
